The Soviet Soldiers Who Liberated Vienna were Remembered and Honoured, DKNews.kz reports.
On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the liberation of Vienna from fascism, a wreath-laying ceremony was held in the central square of Schwarzenbergplatz. Representatives of the embassies of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan attended the ceremony.
The monument to Soviet soldiers, which symbolizes the liberation from Nazism, was erected in 1945. In the battle for the Austrian capital, about 14,000 Soviet soldiers and officers sacrificed their lives, including more than a thousand Kazakh soldiers.
Kazakhstan will always remember the heroic and tragic events of those days. It is very important that Austria respects the memory of the Soviet soldiers who, at the cost of their lives, brought peace and independence to the Austrian people and liberated Europe from the Nazi troops.
