A delegation of senior advisers on non-participating countries at the Department of International Cooperation of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on a working visit, DKNews.kz reports.
The interaction between Al-Farabi KazNU and CERN began with the signing of a declaration of intent to cooperate in various areas, including fundamental and applied research in high-energy physics, nuclear medicine and exchange of experience in the training of scientific personnel. Since 2019, summer schools on high-energy physics and gas pedal technology have been held, organized with the active support of KazNU, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Christoph Schäfer and Tadeusz Kurtyka, Senior Advisors for non-participating countries at the Department of International Cooperation of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), have been to Kazakhstan on several occasions, in particular, they came as lecturers and members of the organizing committee of the Summer School on High Energy Physics and Accelerator Engineering in 2019, which was held in Almaty. Both participated in the preparatory process for the signing of the cooperation agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and CERN.
The delegation was welcomed by Lyazzat Erkinbaeva, Member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. Emphasizing the importance of cooperation between Al-Farabi KazNU and CERN, she said: "Scientists from our university participate in general education and training programs, in organizing schools and seminars for physics students, as well as developing training programs for doctoral students. Doctoral students have successfully conducted their research at CERN and are now preparing for their defense. This is all thanks to our close cooperation. I am confident that today's meeting will result in an increase in the number of scientists participating in CERN experiments and training. We look forward to strengthening and expanding our mutually beneficial cooperation.

Within the framework of the meeting there was a discussion of such issues as the implementation of graduate master's works on the basis of the European Organization for Nuclear Research, internship of master's students, internships and participation in summer schools, the possibility of associate membership of Kazakhstan in CERN and others.
