Kazakh diplomats visited the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), where they met with Executive Director M. Nilsson and project manager B. Padegimas. The Institute, which turns 30 this year, was established with the support of the Parliament and Government of Sweden and offers solutions to ensure sustainable development and improve the living conditions of the population.

SEI's offices are located in the United States, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Colombia, Kenya and Thailand and cover nearby regions. According to the SEI Strategy 2020-2024, its work will focus on reducing climate risk, sustainable resource use and resilient ecosystems, improving health and well-being. Research by the Institute’s experts also covers Central Asia in terms of climate change, transboundary water management, energy and food security, and the same pressing issues.

During an interesting conversation, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdrakhmanov and Mans Nilsson identified promising areas of cooperation to ensure the sustainable development of Kazakhstan and the Central Asian region, to solve problems with air pollution, especially in industrial cities, the efficient use of natural resources, waste management and in other areas of mutual interest.
